About the Artist

Learning to quilt at the age of five was my grandmother's idea of time out!

A box of scrap fabrics from every type of clothing and household cloth imaginable, a needle and thread under a huge shade tree quickly became my grandmother’s peace of mind and my saving grace. Besides, my doll really needed a blanket.  It is this moment in my childhood that I attribute to my lifelong desire and need to create and share cloth, thread, yarn and wool.

Personal creativity through rug hooking is an essential part of my everyday life. A previous quilt store owner and teacher from Indiana has definitely influenced my personal style and design in rug hooking. I enjoy a challenge. A fusion of traditional and mixed media fiber art fuels my creative spirit and is what I enjoy sharing with students and in classes and workshops.

An accredited McGown teacher (Southern McGown Teachers Workshop) with 24 years of rug hooking, I am experienced in all style of rug making. I value the importance of a strong foundation for the traditional standards or techniques of rug hooking past down over the generations. At the same time, I personally like to push the envelope of creativity in my personal work and marvel at the creativity that continues to evolve with today’s rug crafting community.

My home-based studio is where I create original designs, patterns, and manage a small batch dye kitchen creating custom dyed wool cloth and fibers. Practiced in color theory and design I have amassed a significant library of colorways that originate from the 1930’s to present in addition to my personal formulas. In truth, many of my designs are inspired by a single piece of wool.  Dyeing wool and fiber is a passion that I cannot separate from my overall design process.

My studio is a creative space that is perfect for small classes (6 to 8 people), rug color planning or matching, troubleshooting, and of course shopping or visiting.   Contact me for details.

A long-standing member of several local rug hooking groups in Ohio I believe there is always more to learn and that can be done in many ways. Attending local guilds, taking classes and supporting your local groups. If you are here, we are already connected through a common interest or thread.

As much as I cherish my time to create, I enjoy sharing my designs, knowledge and support in addition to inspiring others who want to learn.  Let me hear from you if you have questions or are looking for a group or teacher for your event!
